SMC: Expertise That Works for You.

Formerly Stormwater Maintenance & Consulting,  SMC is an engineering, survey, construction, and maintenance firm focused on stormwater, stream restoration, and drainage systems.

SMC’s engineering group provides design, consulting, and inspection services, primarily on speciality stormwater and stream restoration projects.  The inspection team provides post-construction inspections of existing stormwater infrastructure. SMC Surveys provides land surveying services for landowners, consultants, and contractors.  The construction division performs construction, repair, and maintenance of all types of manmade stormwater and natural stream and wetland systems.  SMC is an industry leader in the practice of engineering, maintaining, repairing, restoring, and retrofitting existing infrastructure.

Our expertise begins with seasoned design knowledge and extends to significant experience and specialization in construction, inspection, maintenance, and life cycle repairs.  This diversification of services gives our clients unusual expertise and extraordinary value. Very few firms have the technical knowledge and experience in design, construction, and maintenance; all with in-house resources.

SMC’s professionals translate this expertise into efficient, economical, and practical solutions that bring unparalleled value for our clients.

History

Founded in 2002, we are committed to stormwater management, water resources, and stream restoration as a specialty and primary business.  We understand and are sensitive to the needs of our clientele, whether they are public entities, commercial landowners, other consulting firms, attorneys, or non-profit organizations.  To better serve our clients’, our services have evolved organically to include companion services such as land surveying, industrial consulting, general contracting, training, and construction that extends beyond stormwater.

Because our knowledge base broadly ranges from design to construction, our culture consistently relies on an informed, practical approach.  The results of our daily real-world design, maintenance, and construction experience constantly influences our methodology, means and methods, and project execution.

Since our inception, SMC has grown organically.  This growth has been the result of our employees capabilities, the needs of our clients, and changes in the economy and  marketplace.  As a women-owned closely-held organization, we are nimble enough to avoid macro-economic pitfalls while choosing our work and clients for reasons that may not always be profit-driven.

Our culture is one of inclusivity, work-life balance, mutual respect among employees and partners, and high value for our clients.  All while smiling, laughing, and enjoying life (which we deem to be mandatory!).

Our employees find that these factors provide rewarding, educational, and enriching careers.

Our clients find that these factors translate into an enjoyable business relationship that brings a very high level of monetary and technical value while offering the opportunity to smile and laugh along with us.

SMC's Commitment to the Chesapeake Bay

As SMC’s focus and commitment is to restoring the Chesapeake Bay, we eagerly seek opportunities to give back to the environment and communities we serve.

To this end, we support numerous non-profit organizations through volunteering, in-kind donations, and generous financially support.  These organizations include:
